Morven Park Spring Horse Trials

Morven Park Spring Horse Trials, March 26 -28, 2004

Final Results Posted by Morven at 5:00 PM EST, Sunday, March 28

Advanced Division I:
1. Phillip Dutton (AUS), The Foreman - 42.26 (4 XC time faults)
2. Phillip Dutton (AUS), I'm So Brite - 46.41 (Double Clear XC)
3. John Williams, Sloopy - 47.50 (Double Clear XC)
4. Nina Fout, 3 Magic Beans - 50.83 (10.4 XC time faults)

Phillip and John must be very pleased with their horses' runs at Morven. Phillip will very likely have been preparing for North Georgia, next weekend, while Morven will have been Sloopy's last run before the "Modified" at Rolex-Kentucky. (Phillip and The Foreman are pictured at right jumping into the first water at Pine Top in early March.)

Jan Thompson withdrew her overnight leader, Task Force, before Cross Country. Yvonne Lucas and Car Tanga, second over night, retired on course. Nina Fout and 3 Magic Beans went from a tie for 6th to 4th place.

Advanced Division II:
1. John Williams, Carrick - 30.00 (2.8 XC time faults)
2. Phillip Dutton (AUS), Hannigan - 65.86 (13.6 XC time faults)
3. Gillian Clissold (GBR), Sportscar - 65.90 (9.20 XC time faults)
4. Nina Fout, Wild Frontier - 72.84 (18.4 XC time faults)

Once again, John and Carrick were having their last run prior to the "Modified" at Rolex-Kentucky. Hopefully, Carrick's quick time will have set him up well for the important Pre-Olympic test to come in less than three weeks. (John and Carrick are pictured at left during the Dressage Phase at the Burghley Masterfood CCI****, last September, where they finished 4th over all.) Phillip and Hannigan moved from fourth place over night to second, while not having a particularly fast run.

Abigail Lufkin, second overnight with the Australian import Kildonan Tug, picked up 42.8 faults on Cross Country to drop to 5th place on a score of 73.80. Suzy Pettman (CAN) and Sambucca incurred 123.01 faults XC and dropped from 3rd over night to12th place.

Stuart Black (CAN) with Fleeceworks Pacific Storm (37.00) and Kim Severson riding QT (36.50) both retained their first places in the two Intermediate Divisions on double clear Cross Country runs.

Mara Depuy and Good Stuff (22.90) led throughout to win OP/DivI. Linden Wiesman and On A Tear (33.40) did the same in OP/DivII. Kristin Schmolze won JY/OP Division I with Cavaldi (36.50). They came from 2nd place over night to the winning slot on the strength of a double clear XC. Stephanie Wear and Lionel The Stalker (32.00) held their first place in JY/OP Division II. They also ran a double clear XC.

Editor's Note: eventingetc congratulates Morven Park Horse Trials on their prompt posting of results throughout the competition. Both Red Hills and Galway Downs, the hosts of the first two CCI-W***'s, could profit by taking a page out of Morven's book in regards prompt and accurate scoring.
