Olympic
Eventing News: Tryon to Ride Former Race Horse and Pack Horse Poggio II. Faudree
Named as Reserve Rider Lexington, KY - The Executive Committee
and the Committee of Selections of the United States Equestrian Federation, and
the USOC Delegation Review Committee, has approved that Amy Tryon, named
to the Olympic Eventing Team on My Beau, and as a replacement rider candidate
on Poggio II, will ride Poggio II in the Olympic Games in Athens,
Greece. Poggio II is a former
Thoroughbred race horse which was being used as a pack horse when Tryon and a
friend purchased him for just $2500. (Amy
and Poggio II are pictured at the right in the Dressage Phase of the Mandatory
Outing, July, 2004.) Will Faudree, 24, of Southern Pines,
NC, has been named as the Eventing teams reserve rider on Antigua, an
Australian Thoroughbred gelding. (Will and Antigua are pictured below at
the center, on the Cross Country Phase of the Mandatory Outing, at the Horse Park
of New Jersey, in July.) The Olympic Eventing competition begins August
15th with dressage which continues on August 16th. On August 17th the cross country
competition will take place, and stadium jumping will be held on August 18th.
