horses competed in the five Open Intermediate Sections at the February 19, Pine
Top Winter II Horse Trials, proving once again the popularity of the event run
by Janet and Glenn Wilson at their Thompson, Georgia farm.
Section
1 was won by Becky Holder and her grey Courageous Comet on a score of 35.6
(3.6 time XC) to pip Australia's Phillip Duttgon with Mrs. Annie Jones' The Foreman
by .7 of a fault. Phillip and his Fair Hill Internationl CCI*** 2004 winner picked
up 2.8 time faults XC. Mara Dean and Good Stuff checked in third on 40.7 with
7.2 time faults XC.17 competitors ran in Section 1.
Sally
Cousins won O/I Section 2 from 18 other entries riding Saxony to a score of
37.9 (4.4 time XC), just 1.1 faults ahead of Becky Holder and Glorious Joy who
finished on 39.0 (2 time XC). Julia Steinberg placed 3rd on Carlos B - 39.5 with
4 SJ faults, but a double clear XC.
John
Williams rode his Athens Olympic Games Team Bronze Medal ride
Carrick
to win OI Section 3 on 31.5 (2 time XC), in the pair's first outing of the 2005
season. (John and Carrick are pictured at the right jumping into the first
water at Pine Top in 2004.) They beat Phillip Dutton on Connaught, whose score
was 39.2 (1.2 time XC). Jenna Schildmier with Tumble dry placed third with a score
of 42.9 (1.2time XC). There were 17 entries in Section 3.
Clarissa
Wilmerding and Mystry Man (27.0 - 2 time XC) scored a 2.2 point triumph over
Kim Severson and her Individual Olympic Silver Medal ride Winsome Adante (29.2
- 3 time SJ and 1.2 time XC), who was making his 2005 season debut in Pine Top's
OI Section 4. Clarissa and Kim were tied after Dressage on 25.0. Kelli Temple
and Paris finished 3rd, on 33.7 (5.2 time XC).
Michael
Pollard
rode SS Jett to a score of 32.8 (.8 time XC) to win over 15 other competitors
in OI Section 5. (Michael and SS Jett are pictured at the left jumping into
the water at North Georgia, in 2004.) Becky Holder rode her 2000 Sydney Olympic
Games travelling spare Highland Hogan to 2nd place on 36.4 (2.4 time XC). Kim
Severson and Maguire finished 3rd on a score of 39.0 (6 time XC).
It
is a credit to Pine Top, with their excellent, sandy footing, that both Kim Severson
and John Williams would choose this mid-February Horse Trial as their 2005 debut
competition for their Bronze Medal Olympic Team horses.

of Open Preliminary were won by, Sonny Little and Final Design (43.5);
Carol Kozlowski riding Take Time (38.8); Ashley MacVaugh with Thomaston
( 35.5); and Suzi Gornall on Paris Tonight (38.2).
