From Badminton to
Squad for WEG
After
the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials the British Selectors
named
twenty-three year old Oliver Townend with Flint Curtis (Oliver Townend is pictured
at the right celebrating his third place finish at the Sunday Press Conference.),
and Daisy Dick riding Spring Along (Daisy and Spring Along are pictured
at the left below jumping the Vickarge Vee on Cross Country.),
to join the Squad already named for The World Equestrian Games to be held inAachen,
in August.
Townend
finished third and Daisy Dick finished eighth at Badminton the first weekend in
May.
Others
named previously to the Squad were: William Fox-Pitt and Tamarillo; (This pair
caused Badminton Director andCourse Designer Hugh Thomas upset when he withdrew
Tamarillo after the Dressage Phase, in order to save the horse for Aachen.) Mary
King and Call Again Cavalier; Zara Phillips and Toytown; and Pippa Funnell with
Primmore's Pride. (Pippa will be required to prove Primm
ore's
Pride's fitness and soundness in order to keep her place in the Squad.)
Notable
by their absence were Jeanette Brakewell and her evergreen 18 year old Over To
You who finished fourth at Badminton. This pair have been the path finders for
the British Team in winning four European Championships Team Gold Medals, two
Olympic Team Silver Medals and a World Games Individual Silver Medal.
