British Selectors Name Squad for WEG

Selectors Name Two From Badminton to Squad for WEG

After the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials the British Selectors named twenty-three year old Oliver Townend with Flint Curtis (Oliver Townend is pictured at the right celebrating his third place finish at the Sunday Press Conference.), and Daisy Dick riding Spring Along (Daisy and Spring Along are pictured at the left below jumping the Vickarge Vee on Cross Country.), to join the Squad already named for The World Equestrian Games to be held inAachen, in August.

Townend finished third and Daisy Dick finished eighth at Badminton the first weekend in May.

Others named previously to the Squad were: William Fox-Pitt and Tamarillo; (This pair caused Badminton Director andCourse Designer Hugh Thomas upset when he withdrew Tamarillo after the Dressage Phase, in order to save the horse for Aachen.) Mary King and Call Again Cavalier; Zara Phillips and Toytown; and Pippa Funnell with Primmore's Pride. (Pippa will be required to prove Primmore's Pride's fitness and soundness in order to keep her place in the Squad.)

Notable by their absence were Jeanette Brakewell and her evergreen 18 year old Over To You who finished fourth at Badminton. This pair have been the path finders for the British Team in winning four European Championships Team Gold Medals, two Olympic Team Silver Medals and a World Games Individual Silver Medal.
