Three
Eventers Have Been Named to the British Short List for
The WEG

Horse
& Hound reports that William Fox-Pitt, Mary King and
Zara Phillips have been named to the British Squad for The WEG, in Aachen,
Germany next August. The announcement was made after a recent training session.
William
was named with Tamarillo who finished second at last year's Mitsubishi Motors
Badminton CCI****. Mary will ride Call Again Cavalier on
whom
she placed fourth at the Land Rover Burghley CCI**** last September. (Mary
and Call Again Cavalier are pictured at the right jumping out of the water
at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton CCI**** last year.)
Zara Phillips,
the reigning European Champion's, mount will be Toytown on whom she won the Europeans
at the Blenheim CCI*** last fall. (Zara is the daughter of Captain Mark Phillips
and The Princess Royal.) (Zara is pictured at the left below riding Toytown
Cross Country in a driving rain storm at the European Championships last fall.)
None
of these three horses will run at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton CCI****, this
May, though William, who has other Advanced horses, is expected to pursue the
Rolex Grand Slam (Land Rover Burghley, Rolex Kentucky and Mitsubishi Badminton
Horse Trials) later this spring. He was the winner at Burghley last fall, riding
Ballincoola, and needs to win the second and third legs in order to claim the
$250,000 prize which has only been won one time, that by Pippa
Funnell.
Three
other members of the six person squad will be named by the middle of June.
Kenneth
Clawson is the Squad Show Jumping coach. Tracey Robinson is the Squad Dressage
coach. Jenny Hall is the Team veterinarian.
