About Us
Land Rover Burghley CCI****,
September 7 -10, 2006

" - and the last shall be first - " Andrew Hoy, who rode last at the Burghley CCI**** this afternoon, put himself in an excellent position to attack on the Cross Country for the $250,000 prize to the winner of the Rolex Challenge. His ride on the Badminton winner Moon Fleet put him in the leader's seat, 4 faults ahead of the overnight leader Lucinda Fredericks. Andrew also stands sixth with Mr. Pracatan, who will run earlier than Moon Fleet on Saturday. (Andrew and Moon Fleet are pictured at the right in the Dressage Phase at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton CCI****, last May.)

Andrew's ride meant that six Australian horses occupied one of the top eight places - quite an accomplishment!

Both American riders, Bonnie Mosser on Jenga in fifth place, and Becky Holder with Courageous Comet, in a tie for eleventh place, positioned themselves well for the challenges ahead.

Of the top fourteen places, six riders had represented their countries at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen two weeks ago, including Australia's Clayton Fredericks (Ben Along Time), who won the Individual Silver Medal as well as being a member of Australia's Bronze Medal Team; Bettina Hoy (Ringwood Cockatoo) who rode on Germany's Gold Medal Team; Andrew Hoy (Master Monarch) also a member of Australia's Bronze Medal Team; Oliver Townend (Flint Curtis), who rode as an Individual for Great Britan and finished in eleventh place; William Fox-Pitt (Tamarillo), a member of Great Britain's Silver Medal Team; and Andrew Nicholson (Lord Killinghurst) who rode on the sixth place New Zealand Team and finished in twenty-third place individually.

Sally Futh reports from Burghley:

"Hoy! Hoy! Hoy! the cry went up* as Andrew Hoy and Moon Fleet tried to leave the ring after completing a super test filled with 9s, and a 10 change.Three 9s for the rider and then Moonfleet balked at the applause and wanted to stay for more... but nothing was a gift; he was smooth, forward, unhurried and everything we came to Burghley to see."

At 2:44 PM Local Time Stamford, England the leader Board looked as below.

Bonnie Mosser, who lives in eastern Pennsylvania, rode her former Foxhall CCI*** winner Jenga to third place on a score of 38.9. She is now ahead of Andrew Hoy's first horse Mr. Pracatan. Andrew is hard on the hunt for a win at Burghley in order to complete his Rolex Grand Slam and take home the the $250,000 US prize for winning the Rolex Kentucky, Mitsubishi Motors Badminton and Land Rover Burghley CCI****'s consecutively in any order.

Sally Futh reports from Burghley, "Jenga was brilliant and Bonnie was over the moon. She had watched Brit (Headley Brittania, Lucinda Frederick's leader) thinking they were similar types and when Brit did so well, Bonnie decided to go for it, and it worked! - bigtime!" (Bonnie and Jenga are pictured at the right, in the Burghley arena.)
