As we were walking back from lunch
we saw Phillip Dutton, a member of the Australian Eventing Team,
working in an Eventing warm up ring with the Australian Coach.

At the lunch break on Tuesday, August 22, the first day the Dressage FEI World Team Dressage Championship and Individual Qualifying Competition, the standings looked like this:

1. Hubertus Schmidt (GER), Wansuela Suerte - 69.208
2. Laurens Van Lieren (NED) Hexagon's Ollright - 68.500 (Laurens and Hexagon's Ollright are pictured at the right at the piaffe.)
3. Laura Bechtolsheimer (GBR), Cinderella - 66.667

9. Lesley Morse (USA), Tip Top 962 - 64.25

There was a huge to do at the Press Conference regarding the fact that a German Steward thought that Laurens Van Lieren (NED) was wearing a PRIVATE SPONSOR'S LOGO. Only a TEAM SPONSOR'S LOGO is allowed. Laurens was sent back to the stable to change his saddle pad and missed 15 minutes of his warm up time hence (probably) effecting his score. It transpired that the saddle pad he had been wearing WAS the logo of a TEAM SPONSOR. The bottom line is that the whole fracas was caused by the Steward's mistake.
