Saturday,
November 4, 2006 - CCI** Show Jumping

Three
of the top four leaders
after the Cross Country Show Jumped double clears on Saturday. The odd man
out was Allison Springer who had one rail and one time fault with Arthur to
drop to fourth place.
Canada's
Mike Winter moved from eighth place to fifth place on a clear Show Jumping round
with one time fault added.
Fanny
Lee and Hadley Harbour rose five places from fifteenth after Cross Country to
a final tenth placing on their double clear Show Jumping round.
The
Show Jumping was held in the Coliseum - an indoor ring. The Virginia Horse Trials
is perhaps the only competition in the United States which holds the show jumping
phase of a Three Day Event indoors routinely. Morven has done it in the case of
inclement weather, though never at the CCI** level. There is some question as
to how appropriate it is to run the Show Jumping phase of a CCI** indoors, when
outdoor arenas are available.

The
Chronicle of the Horse Reports the Following:
Kildonan
Tug Euthanized At Virginia Horse Trials
Kildonan
Tug broke his leg on the cross-country course at the Virginia Horse Trials, Lexington,
Va., on Nov. 4 and was euthanized. He was 14.
The Australian
Thoroughbred competed through the three-star level with Tim Boland in Australia
before being sold to Abigail Lufkin of the United States in 2003.
Lufkin
placed third with him at the Rolex Kentucky CCI**** in 2004. Most recently, young
rider Gillian King had been competing Kildonan Tug at the preliminary level. She
won her last two preliminary events.
Unusually cold weather
in Virginia for the horse trials weekend may have contributed to the accident;
Kildonan Tug slipped and fell between fences 5 and 6 on the preliminary cross-country
course.
