Mandatory Outing, for Short Listed Riders Who Did Not Compete in England
Friday, July 11 - Dressage and Cross Country

Nine horse and rider combinations did their Dressage at 8:00 AM at The Fork, Norwood, North Carolina.

The same nine ran Cross Country at 12:30 PM. This was NOT a competition and, although the Dressage was judged by Jessica Ransehousen and Sandy Phillips, both of who have represented the United States in International Dressage competitions, no scores were divulged. There were no Fence Judges and no timing for the Cross Country. (As far as this reporter is aware none of the nine competitors had any jumping faults.)

After each rider's Dressage, Jessica Ransehousen discussed their performance with them in the ring and made suggestions as to what they needed to work on.

This was a bit of a "plain brown wrapper" outing - there were no orders of go and there was no announcer. Nonetheless, the competitors went in the same order in the Cross Country phase as they did in the Dressage.

It was mostly cloudy durng the hours of competition and it actually rained quite hard during Buck Davidson's Cross Country. The clouds and rain were a "God Send", as the moment the sun appeared the temperature zoomed up to ninty-three degrees.

The crepe myrtle are all in bloom all over the area - the dark purpilish red, the white and once in a while a lovely pink.

For the purposes of this report, there will be a picture of each horse and competitor in the order in which they went, accompanied by a short comment on each.

Phillip Dutton and Connaught are pictured at the right jumping the Turtle after the first water. They produced their usual quick and workmanlike Cross Country run.

Kim Severson and Tipperary Liadhnan are pictured at the left. Their Dressage was outstanding and their Cross Country run solid.

Will Faudree and Antigua are pictured at the right jumping into the last water.

Bonnie Mosser and Merloch were named late to the Short List when one of Phillip Dutton's horses had a veterinary problem. They acquitted themselves extremely well in both the Dressage and the Cross Country, though Bonnie had to give him a reminder to move on after the first water.

Buck Davidson and Ballynoe Castle are pictured at the right jumping out of the first water before The Turtle.

The Show Jumping will take place on Saturday at 10:00 AM. After all the notices that the Public was not welcome, there was no one checking identity at the enterance to the Fork Farm. This is not to say that the enterance will not be guarded on Saturday - so take your chances. It was generally agreed that this rule was a mistake and would not be repeated.

Editor's Note: Your reporter will be travelling from North Carolina back to Kentucky directly after the Show Jumping. As this is an eight hour plus drive, the Show Jumping report will not be available until Sunday.
