5:30 PM Saturday Re: David O'Connor: Karen, David's wife, said at the Press Conference,
"He's doing fine. His left ankle is broken and his left wrist is broken.
He is in Christiana Hospital (in Delaware). He said, "I missed!" Karen
continued, "Meaning he didn't get the stride he was looking for."
Rusty
Lowe, an EMT, who is the Safety Officer said, "From the onset the prognosis
looks good." David may have his ankle operated on tonight to have screws
put in it.

Kristen
Schmolze and the 13 year old Irish Sport Horse Cavaldi lead the Fair Hill International
CCI*** after a great double clear, on a score of 50.6."I'm still
sort
of in shock," Kristen said. "He was really good out there. He's only
eight. We're both still learning." (Kristen and Cavaldi are pictured at
the right at the corner after the last water.)
Karen
O'Connor, riding Lourdes Peralta's Grand Slam, also rode a double clear for a
final score of 52.8 and second place. "Lourdes is our neighbor. The horse
lives in her barn. She does a lot of the conditioning on him. He (Grand Slam)
really understands the whole plot. Of the results should lead me to the Olympic
Games, I would be very proud." (Karen is pictured below at left, at the
Press Conference.)
Julie
Richards, of Atlanta, GA stands in third place riding Hyde Park Corner, who is
owned by Julie and her husband Jim of Foxhall Cup CCI*** fame. Julie spoke of
her 4.4 time faults. "It was the hills. I just couldn't get the minute
markers.
I've only done two Advanced horse trials." with him this season. "You
have to get used to riding fast. He has to get used to running fast." (Julie
and Hyde Park Corner are pictured below left at the fence coming out of the last
water.)
Less
than a rail separates the top three competitors.
Donna
Smith (NZL), the overnight leader had a refusal and22.8 time faults for a final
score of90.4.
The
Final Veterinary Examination will take place on Sunday at 8:00 AM, followed by
the Show Jumping at 10:00 AM.
