Fair Hill International CCI, Saturday, October 25, Cross Country

Bulletin 5:30 PM Saturday Re: David O'Connor: Karen, David's wife, said at the Press Conference, "He's doing fine. His left ankle is broken and his left wrist is broken. He is in Christiana Hospital (in Delaware). He said, "I missed!" Karen continued, "Meaning he didn't get the stride he was looking for."

Rusty Lowe, an EMT, who is the Safety Officer said, "From the onset the prognosis looks good." David may have his ankle operated on tonight to have screws put in it.

Kristen Schmolze and the 13 year old Irish Sport Horse Cavaldi lead the Fair Hill International CCI*** after a great double clear, on a score of 50.6."I'm still sort of in shock," Kristen said. "He was really good out there. He's only eight. We're both still learning." (Kristen and Cavaldi are pictured at the right at the corner after the last water.)

Karen O'Connor, riding Lourdes Peralta's Grand Slam, also rode a double clear for a final score of 52.8 and second place. "Lourdes is our neighbor. The horse lives in her barn. She does a lot of the conditioning on him. He (Grand Slam) really understands the whole plot. Of the results should lead me to the Olympic Games, I would be very proud." (Karen is pictured below at left, at the Press Conference.)

Julie Richards, of Atlanta, GA stands in third place riding Hyde Park Corner, who is owned by Julie and her husband Jim of Foxhall Cup CCI*** fame. Julie spoke of her 4.4 time faults. "It was the hills. I just couldn't get the minute markers. I've only done two Advanced horse trials." with him this season. "You have to get used to riding fast. He has to get used to running fast." (Julie and Hyde Park Corner are pictured below left at the fence coming out of the last water.)
